México is located in North America. On its northern border lies the United States of America. On its southern border, Belize and Guatemala. Its eastern and western borders are marked by oceans — the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of México to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. México is the world’s thirteenth-largest country, covering an area of 1,972,550 square kilometers (761,610 square miles). The country covers three times zones. Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) or time zone for México is UTC-8 through UTC-5.
The country’s official name is the United Mexican States. There are 31 states, plus México City as a separate federal entity. México City serves as the capital and is México’s largest city. Population is 126,014,024 (2020 census figures). México’s national language is Spanish.
The currency of México is the Mexican Peso (MXN). The country has a real GDP of US$2.715 trillion (2020 estimate). Exports include electronics (such as televisions, computers, mobile phones, and appliances), automobiles, petroleum, steel, and produce.
México declared independence from Spain on 16 September 1810. Its Declaration of Independence of the Mexican Empire was drafted 27 September 1821. 16 September is recognized as Mexican Independence Day.

What do the colors of the Mexican flag mean?
The colors of the Mexican flag are green, white, and red. The national emblem is in the center of the white bar. Green represents hope and victory. White, unity. Red honors the national heroes who fought for México. The national emblem depicts an eagle perched atop a cactus (nopal) clutching a serpent in its talons and beak.
